๐Ÿ”„ Used the old app?

We know the transition is a bit bumpy. Here's what you need to know.

You'll need to create a new account in the Kilter Board app. The old app is no longer supported, and we weren't able to transfer account data during the transition.

The good news: signing up takes about 30 seconds. Just download the app and create your account to get started. You can then reclaim your data from the old app.

We saved them. Almost all climbs created on the old app have been preserved.

You can get your climbs back by requesting a data export from Aurora and uploading it through our Claim Data page. We'll verify your ownership and migrate them to your new account.

You can reclaim your logbook and send history from the old app. Request a data export from Aurora and upload it through our Claim Data page โ€” we'll import everything we can, including your logbook.

Draft climbs from the old app may be included in your data export. Request your data from Aurora and upload it through our Claim Data page โ€” we'll import everything we can, including any drafts found in your export.

๐Ÿ”‘ Sign Up Issues

Common questions about creating your account.

Your old credentials don't transfer. You need to register a new account in the new app before you can sign in. If you don't have the new app yet, download it at kilterboard.io.

Yes โ€” you should be able to claim your old username. If a previous attempt failed, please try again, as we've fixed bugs related to this.

If you were forced to use a workaround (adding _, _1, @, a number, or any other character because your username wasn't accepted), submit a feedback ticket and we'll fix it.

Note: if your old username was claimed by someone else in the meantime, we may not be able to give it back. Submit a ticket and we'll look into it.

Please don't attempt to claim a username that isn't yours โ€” this is not allowed and may result in account action.

If it still isn't working, submit a feedback ticket at kilterboard.io/feedback.

Yes. Your data claim is based on your old username, not your new one. You can use any username you'd like for your new account and still reclaim your old data through the Claim Data page.

๐Ÿ” Filters

Finding climbs and managing your lists.

Filter By Setter: On the Boards page you can now filter for a specific setter and see all their problems on that board. You can also visit a setter's profile and click their "Climbs" list to see everything they've set.

Exclude Sent Climbs: A new toggle to remove climbs you've done from your board search.

Checkmarks for Sent Climbs: A green checkmark appears next to the problem name when you've done it, and the name is dimmed so sent problems are easier to identify.

Liked Climbs: Available in the automatic "Liked Climbs" playlist in the playlists section of your profile.

Other Filters: We're working on adding more filters. Submit requests at kilterboard.io/feedback โ€” we prioritize partly based on number of users affected.

Important: The automatic Liked Climbs playlist will only show climbs you've liked in the new app until you complete the steps at kilterboard.io/claim to attach your old data.

โœ… Verified Climbs

About Kilter's recommendation system.

The glowing blue Kilter Logo next to a problem's name means it's a Verified Climb โ€” Kilter's recommendation system. These are climbs we've vetted with a group of climbers and setters and found to be engaging, challenging in different ways, and/or just plain fun.

Verified climbs include popular problems over the years as well as hidden gems that may have gone unnoticed. Verified climbs won't always be the hardest of the grade, nor the easiest, but they will provide a nice range of climbing. The categories will continue to grow as new great climbs pop up.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Grade Ranges

How grading works in the app.

Nope. The climb's grade will reflect the current consensus, so it can change if enough people grade it differently. If you have a grade opinion, please share it โ€” it helps.

The displayed grade is the current consensus โ€” a weighted average of all grades submitted by climbers. The grade chart shows the full distribution of individual opinions. It's normal for the chart to show a spread, especially for climbs that straddle two grades. The displayed grade reflects where the community consensus currently sits, even if individual opinions vary.

๐Ÿ†• New to Kilter Board?

Welcome! Here's how to get climbing.

  1. Download the app
Get the Kilter Board app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Create your account
Quick signup โ€” just a few details and you're in.
  3. Connect to a board
Tap the lightbulb icon in the app, make sure Bluetooth is on, and stand near the board. It should connect automatically.
  4. Find a climb and hit play
Browse climbs by grade, filter by your preferences, and tap a climb to light it up on the board.
  5. Log your send
After you finish, log it in the app to track your progress over time.

๐Ÿ”ง Something's not working?

Here are fixes for the most common issues.

First, make sure Bluetooth is turned on in your phone settings (not just the app).

Important: Connect to the board through the Kilter app, not through your phone's Bluetooth settings menu. The board won't appear in your phone's Bluetooth device listโ€”this is normal.

Stand within 10 feet of the board and try these steps:

1. Toggle Bluetooth off and back on
2. Close and reopen the app
3. If still not working, restart your phone

Still stuck? The board itself might need a power cycleโ€”ask gym staff to help.

Check a few things:

1. Make sure the board is powered on (ask gym staff if unsure)
2. Confirm you've selected the correct board in the app
3. Try disconnecting and reconnecting via Bluetooth

If the board shows as connected but LEDs still won't light, there may be a hardware issueโ€”let the gym know.

Try these steps:

1. Update to the latest version of the app
2. Close other apps running in the background
3. Restart the app
4. Check that your phone has enough storage space

If crashes continue, let us know what device you're using when you contact supportโ€”it helps us fix things faster.

Try searching by the gym's name in the app. If it doesn't show up:

1. The gym may not have registered their board yetโ€”ask them directly
2. Make sure you're searching in the right location/region
3. The board might be listed under a slightly different name

If your gym recently installed a Kilter Board, it might take a few days to appear in the system.

๐Ÿค Community Conduct

Hate speech, hate symbols, sexual speech, sexual imagery, and harassment are not allowed.

Most Kilter boards are in gyms and public spaces. Using words or creating images that are hateful, offensive, or illegal is not ok. This applies everywhere in the app โ€” your profile info and photo, problem names, problem images, and comments.

Violations can result in actions up to and including your account being restricted or banned.

From any problem page, click the menu (three dots in the top right corner) and select "Report a problem." For anything that can't be reported in-app, screenshot the issue (including the username of the person who created it) and submit a complaint at kilterboard.io/feedback.
